This child is kept in a cellar, and is never allowed to see the sun or to play with the other children.The child is kept in this way because it is the price that must be paid for the happiness of Omelas. If the child is released, the city will fall into chaos and misery.One day, a young man discovers the child. He is horrified by the child's suffering, and he decides to leave Omelas in order to find a better place for the child to live.The young man travels to many different places, but he cannot find a place where the child will be safe and happy. He eventually decides to take the child with him and live in the wilderness.The young man and the child live happily together in the wilderness. The child is finally free to play and to experience the world.The story ends with the question: "Would you have left Omelas?"
